National Freelancers Day 2017 promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a packed schedule of industry experts providing invaluable advice and support through a series of comprehensive seminars, masterclasses and workshops.
Whatever your industry, passion or age, this year’s NFD has something for you. Following three strands – student, new to freelancing and experienced freelancers – the day will include a host of tailor-made sessions covering everything you need to know about launching and running a stimulating and successful freelance business.
Paul Mason, National Account Manager in the Contractor Division at Abbey Tax, will be attending to answer questions and provide expert advice on the IR35 legislation.
Paul worked in general practice before moving into the insurance and consultancy arena. Generally, he has worked in accountancy practices since 1991, and specifically in practices relating to the contractor market since 2001.
Paul now leads Abbey Tax’s Contractor Unit – which provides contract reviews and tax losses insurance for contractors and freelancers nationwide. Paul regularly speaks about IR35 and related topics and works closely with Abbey Tax’s investigations specialists in a team whose role it is to ensure freelancers get the best defence in an IR35 enquiry.
Paul said:I will be sitting on a panel and fielding questions specifically relating to IR35 – my area of expertise. I will be talking about the new public sector rule changes for those who are still not 100% sure about what the new legislation means and how they could be affected.
“I will also be talking about the private sector, and what people who are moving to the private sector need to know about their responsibilities. I can talk about HMRC and what their approach is and generally clear up some of the myths surrounding this piece of legislation and things people need to be wary of. I’ve spoken at many IPSE events about IR35 and will be hoping to share whatever advice I can.”
Paul will be sitting on a panel from 14.30 – 15.15 titled finances for independent professionals: ask the experts your questions.
