National Freelancers Day 2017 promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a packed schedule of industry experts providing invaluable advice and support through a series of comprehensive seminars, masterclasses and workshops.

Whatever your industry, passion or age, this year’s NFD has something for you. Following three strands – student, new to freelancing and experienced freelancers – the day will include a host of tailor-made sessions covering everything you need to know about launching and running a stimulating and successful freelance business.

One such session will involve Ben Matthews – Director of Montfort and runner up in the IPSE Inspire Freelancer of the Year in 2015. Ben’s company, Montfort, a digital marketing agency for people who change the world for good. He also blogs about freelancing and freelance life at benrmatthews.com.

At NFD, Ben will be fielding questions and talking about his personal experiences of starting out and running a successful freelance career in the billing, banking and bookkeeping session.

Ben said: “This will be the third National Freelancers Day I've attended and it just seems to get bigger and better every year. There are more and more people going freelance as our modern working world makes this route a more attractive choice, including the flexibility on offer and being in charge of your own work.

“But freelancers need a community in order to thrive and NFD provides just that. From giving advice to those new to freelancing to offering networking opportunities to those who been freelancing for a few years, there's something for everyone to gain from.

“I'm taking part in the billing, banking and bookkeeping session. I'll be talking about the mistakes I've made, how I handle my finances now and what I wish I'd had known when I started freelancing all those years ago. I'm trying to offer a shortcut to financial success for new freelancers, as well as offer insights around what actually happens day to day. Hopefully there'll be lots of questions that I'll be able to help with.

“The session is aimed at those new to freelancing. You'll learn how to handle your business finances, with expert advice from the likes of Intuit QuickBooks, HSBC and other financial companies. I'll be there offering the freelancer perspective, so if you want to know the daily ins and outs of freelance finances, this is the panel for you.

“While this isn't the sexiest part of freelancing, it's probably the most critical to get right if you want to be a happy and productive freelancer. Getting invoices paid, paying your tax to HMRC and making sure your books are in order can seem daunting at first, but there's plenty of advice on offer from those who have been through the same learning process.”

Ben’s billing, banking and bookkeeping: learn how to handle your business finances session, runs from 15.45 - 16.15.
